In a landmark series of 4,000 eyes with posterior uveal melanoma treated with plaque radiotherapy, significant visual acuity loss (≥15 letters) occurred in 30% at 1 year and 82% at 10 years, with greater tumor thickness, proximity to the foveola, higher radiation dose to the foveola and lens, and diabetes mellitus as key predictive risk factors.
